I would just like to recommend one of my favorite events: The Sunday Jazz Brunch that takes place on the 1st Sunday of every month, along the Riverwalk area of Downtown Fort Lauderdale

The next one will be held this Sunday, August 5th, and while the music is scheduled to be performed between 11 am and 2 pm, the whole area is abuzz with activities for the whole family before and after, (dogs are also allowed on leash, so bring fido with you). there are plenty of refreshment vendors and other merchants on the route and the stores and cineplex just across the railroad tracks in Las Olas Riverfront offer more.

If you haven't been to the Himmarshee Village area that surrounds the Riverwalk for a while you will be surprised at the renewal the whole area has undergone.
